BALD HEAD ISLAND

an ISLAND ESCAPE

The Island

NORTH CAROLINA

Bald Head Island is the perfect vacation spot for getting away from it all. No cars are allowed on the island. Instead, after taking the ferry from Southport, visitors travel the island in golf carts.

The beaches are glorious and the salt marshes spectacular. The island is a bird haven. Nature abounds with deer, egrets, painted buntings, pelicans, foxes, and sea turtles. The Bald Head Island Conservancy is a non-profit that has designated 10,000 acres of marsh and uplands on the island as nature preserves.

During the first half of the summer, you can watch with a naturalist the giant loggerhead turtles come ashore and lay their eggs. In the second half of the summer, you can watch the baby sea turtles hatch and make their way to the ocean.

Bald Head Island is just 4 miles long with 14 miles of pristine beaches. There is a full-service market, coffee shops, restaurants, galleries, and gift shops.

The Island is full of history. The “Old Baldy” lighthouse, built in 1817,  is the oldest standing lighthouse in North Carolina.

Come relax and discover Bald Head Island and watch your troubles melt away!
